Course Description

Students, staff and researchers who plan to use a laser of class 3B and 4 at UIC are required to take this Basic Laser Safety Training course. The course includes: basic principles of what a laser is, how it works, defines the different types and classes of lasers, describes the hazards caused by the beam itself as well as other non-beam hazards.  In addition this training explains the laser safety program and regulations are highlighted, finally it explains the role of the Laser Safety Officer. Passing the test and informing the LSO of your accomplishment will conclude the basic training.

 

Note: To be completely trained you must pass this Basic Laser Safety Training and complete a training session on the particular laser you wish to use.  This additional training is conducted by the responsible person for that laser and must be completed on an annual basis. The on-line Basic Laser Training is required once.
